Look at this image from the first page of the book and read the start of the story.  Have you seen snails before?  Where were they and what did they look like?  Have you heard of sea snails before?  Watch this video and look closely at the snail.

In the text it says “This is the snail with an itchy foot”  When we say that people have itchy feet it means that they want to travel!  The underside of a snail is called its foot!

Why do you think she wants to travel?  Where do you think she might like to go?  Download the PDF and record your idea in the thought bubble.  If you’d rather not print the sheet then record it in your red book.

We will then finish the lesson looking in more detail at different types of diets that animals may have. You will need a piece of paper, a pencil and most importantly your brain!

Art

Creative Earth Art Competition

Creative Earth is an art competition for people aged 16 and under from across the UK, run by the UN COP26 Climate Change Conference in collaboration with WWF.

As part of the Together for Our Planet Campaign, they are inviting young people to get creative and show global leaders the world they want to live in.

Whether it’s green forests and garden cities, clear skies and wind turbines or oceans teeming with life they would like children to paint, draw or design a piece of art that shows how you’d like our planet to look in the future. The art work must fit within the circle and the colour green must be included.

The UK is hosting COP26 in Glasgow in November 2021, bringing together world leaders to tackle climate change and ensure a better future for us all.

The winners will have their artwork displayed at COP26 to show the rest of the world the vision for the future. The closing date is Sunday 28th February.

You can send an image of the completed artwork to TogetherForOurPlanet@cabinetoffice.gov.uk with the subject title “Creative Earth – <Your Name>”. Please keep the original artwork until the competition winner is announced.

For PE today we would like you try out one of Andy’s Wild Workouts!

In this episode he  travels to the freezing Arctic to see what he can find. He leaps with an Arctic fox, swims with eider ducks before meeting a huge, hungry polar bear.  I thought you’d enjoy this as you all were really interested in polar bears last term.  If you want you could always watch a few of the others too.

Internet Safety

Safer Internet Day 2021 is being celebrated across the UK today.

With such a huge shift to remote learning and time spent on the internet, teaching our children about how to stay safe online has never been so important.

The theme of Safer Internet Day this year is about children learning how to tell the difference between fact and fiction and whether they can always trust what they see online.

In school we will be having a look at this assembly story:

http://bit.ly/3jsKeMh

Please also have a look at the first video clip on the link below which can spark a discussion about the following questions:

What can we trust or not trust? How do we know? How can I check it out? What do I do if I am worried?

This website also has a range of top tips, films, lessons and assemblies for all ages – please do visit if you would like to explore this theme further with your child or other children at home:

Art

This week we will be looking closely at how Bethan Woollvin created the trees, plants and woodland settings in her simple, beautiful illustrations.

Image result for bethan woollvin little red
Image result for bethan woollvin rapunxel

Look at the shapes and lines of each different tree and bush. How has Bethan added detail to show the branches, leaves or bark? Did you notice that her illustrations are mostly in monochrome – black, white and shades of grey – with pops of bright colour here and there?

Now create your own forest of trees and plants in this style! You could use pencils, felt tips, paint or chalk.

You might like to listen to this story that we read before Christmas, also by Bethan Woollvin. Does it inspire you to draw anything else?
