PE

For PE today we would like you try out one of Andy’s Wild Workouts!

In this episode he  travels to the freezing Arctic to see what he can find. He leaps with an Arctic fox, swims with eider ducks before meeting a huge, hungry polar bear.  I thought you’d enjoy this as you all were really interested in polar bears last term.  If you want you could always watch a few of the others too.

Internet Safety

Safer Internet Day 2021 is being celebrated across the UK today.

With such a huge shift to remote learning and time spent on the internet, teaching our children about how to stay safe online has never been so important.

The theme of Safer Internet Day this year is about children learning how to tell the difference between fact and fiction and whether they can always trust what they see online.

In school we will be having a look at this assembly story:

Please also have a look at the first video clip on the link below which can spark a discussion about the following questions:

What can we trust or not trust? How do we know? How can I check it out? What do I do if I am worried?

This website also has a range of top tips, films, lessons and assemblies for all ages – please do visit if you would like to explore this theme further with your child or other children at home:

Art

This week we will be looking closely at how Bethan Woollvin created the trees, plants and woodland settings in her simple, beautiful illustrations.

Look at the shapes and lines of each different tree and bush. How has Bethan added detail to show the branches, leaves or bark? Did you notice that her illustrations are mostly in monochrome – black, white and shades of grey – with pops of bright colour here and there?

Now create your own forest of trees and plants in this style! You could use pencils, felt tips, paint or chalk.

You might like to listen to this story that we read before Christmas, also by Bethan Woollvin. Does it inspire you to draw anything else?

Have a lovely weekend!

I REALLY enjoyed our would you rather questions this afternoon and it was lovely to see you all giggling! I know some of you had a go at the music today too – the children in school loved it. Look at these amazing photos that Elliott sent in!

Friday 5th February

Good Morning! I look forward to seeing you for Maths, phonics and our afternoon catch up. This afternoon we are going to play a game of would you rather! I will have some ready for us but it might be fun for you to all think of one each to share too!

Before today’s maths session please could you write these 8 numbers on 8 small pieces of paper or post it notes.

Next week in maths we will be focusing on money. If you can, try and find one of each of the coins ready for our lessons.

Thursday 4th February

Good Morning I look forward to seeing you for English, Phonics and our afternoon catch up. In our catch up session this afternoon I would like you to bring along your favourite story book that you have at home.

English

Watch this language rich version of Jack and the Beanstalk.

This version has some lovely language in it.  The author has thought really carefully  about the words he has used.  This helps make it really interesting to listen to.

I have picked some of the words from the story, see if you can find the words that have a similar meaning.  This is a great activity for building up your vocabulary. If you’d rather not print out the sheet below just record the answers in your red book.

Science

In this lesson, we will be experimenting with different types of materials which have different weights. We will be creating our structures to experiment with in the next lesson, ‘Will the wall I’ve built withstand strong winds?’. You will need playdough, twigs or sticks, hay or straw, sugar cubes, lego or plastic bricks and lastly glue or sticky tape. If you don’t have these things, you can just watch the video. At the end please answer the questions and then draw the table into your book and sort the list of materials into heavy and light.
