Fractions and French skipping!

What a busy week we’ve had. We’ve been working really hard in maths, fractions are very tricky! We’re looking at improper fractions, equivalent fractions, mixed numbers and simplifying fractions. This is all before we move onto decimals, even more complicated maths! Well done Meadow 4, I’m really proud of all the progress you’re making.

Luckily, Madame Huelin gave us some outdoor time in french this week where we were learning how to do french skipping and counting at the same time.

India

On Thursday we had the pleasure of Mrs Goldsack coming in to talk to Year 4 about the time she had spent teaching in schools in New Delhi, India. She showed us photos and told us about a typical day in a school in India. These schools are all supported by the Samarpan Foundation. The children were able to highlight the similarities and differences between our school and the Samarpan schools. It was incredibly interesting, thank you Mrs Goldsack.

Extreme Reader Competition

Welcome back everybody. I hope you all had a restful half term break and are now ready for the half term ahead.

Firstly, a gentle reminder about the extreme reader competition. Entries in by the 1st March please as with the book cover competition. World book day is Thursday 7th March, come dressed as a word!

Stay and write the opening of a scary story.

Thank you to everyone who managed to come in this morning and work with their child in writing an opening for a scary story. They were brilliant!

It really helped the children with the hardest part of writing the story, the start! We are looking forward to sharing the finished pieces with you soon and hope you will be quaking in your boots as you read them!

Have a lovely half term everyone and thank you for your continual support.

Safer Internet Day

Today was National Safer Internet Day. The children have spent time in class, discussing and learning about how to stay safe online. The main focus of our learning has been the importance of talking to a trusted grown-up if the children come across anything they don’t like or are unsure of online. We have also looked at our SMART rules for using digital devices and the internet and the different places we can go for help. Ask your child at home about what they can remember about our discussion and for any further information or guidance about staying safe online or Safer Internet Day please visit https://www.saferinternetday.org

Mathopoly

Following on from the fun we had on number day we have been playing mathopoly. This is just like monopoly with chance cards and challenge cards, however to gain points, not money, we have to complete multiplication and division calculations. The first one to 100 wins!
